Join Cyndi's Campaign for a Better Oklahoma!

After graduating from Lawton Eisenhower High School, Cyndi attended the University of Central Oklahoma and became the first person in her family to graduate from college, only because of the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program, which provides free in-state college tuition to low-income families.Cyndi spent over a decade working in the non-profit community. At the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma she provided leadership programs for thousands of girls in low-income schools, juvenile detention centers, and public housing. Cyndi also spent time at a non-profit working to improve children’s lives through shared reading with their incarcerated parents.

“When I look at my life I know that Oklahoma's leaders can help people. And I believe that a campaign should be about people. During this campaign I want to fill box after box with your stories, your photos, and your letters. Anything that speaks to why you love Oklahoma. It's what I will carry with me on this new journey. And when times are hard it is what will carry me and guide my way as your next Governor."

Elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in September of 2015, Cyndi became the first Asian-American woman elected to the Oklahoma Legislature. As the Minority Leader she led the bipartisan effort to repeal the state sales tax on groceries, provided tax relief to everyday Oklahomans, fought for increased funding for public schools, stood up to insurance companies, and more. Cyndi has fought against the most extreme measures in the Legislature, such as the strictest abortion ban in the country, attacks on trans kids, mandating the teaching of Bibles in public schools, and attacks on tribal sovereignty. Cyndi and her caucus were the first to call for an impeachment investigation into State Superintendent of Instruction Ryan Walters.

Cyndi Munson is one of us. She has overcome life’s challenges to be where she is today, working to help others.&nbsp; The daughter of a Vietnam War Veteran and a South Korean immigrant, Cyndi grew up in Lawton. Cyndi and her younger sister were raised by their single father, who worked multiple jobs while serving in the U.S. Army. To make ends meet, her family had to move every year chasing cheaper rent. Cyndi would move 10 times before graduating high school, all in the same town.

Oklahomans are facing the rising cost of healthcare more than ever. Cyndi believes that we need to invest in solutions that lower the cost of prescription drugs, health insurance premiums, and other costs that keep Oklahomans from affording the care they deserve.

Lower Healthcare Costs for Oklahomans

Oklahoma has one of the strictest abortion bans in the country, with no exceptions for rape or incest. Doctors are unable to treat women patients, birth control and contraception are at risk of being banned, and women are not able to find the healthcare they need. Cyndi will send the repeal of the abortion ban to a vote of the people so Oklahomans can get the care they deserve.

Oklahoma’s public schools and teachers have been left behind by our leaders. Cyndi will push to bring public school funding over the regional average and provide a much needed pay raise to our public school teachers and staff. She will end the current school voucher scheme that takes millions of dollars every year and sends them to exclusive private schools.

Rising prices on everyday expenses have hit Oklahomans hard. That’s why Cyndi will work to provide tax relief to middle class and working families, not billionaires and special interests. Cyndi led the bipartisan effort to end the state tax on groceries, the largest tax cut for everyday Oklahomans in state history, and she will work with leaders on both sides of the aisle to find more relief.
